Carla has a long history of involvement in national and community projects focusing on the perinatal period and children and youth. See Carla's information page for more information.

Carla is passionate about providing Training and Clinical Reflective Supervision to other health professionals (mental health clinicians, medical, midwives, allied health professionals) related to Perinatal and Infant Mental Health and related topics. Carla has presented at conferences, developed training workshops, provided organisation in-services for staff, and co-facilitated on the following topics and more:

  • Perinatal Grief and Loss (including co-developer of Perinatal Training Centre's) Grief, Trauma and Attachment: An Integrated Approach to Perinatal Loss)

  • Floriful Workshops: Combining Floristry, Selfcare and Mindfulness

Carla also provides information sessions and guest speaker services to professionals and parents within the perinatal period, as well as media talks:

Carla is currently building on training offerings in therapeutic horticulture using floristry, with a focus on using it for health professional self-care. As well as working on building online training focused on psychological support skills for frontline perinatal health professionals such as midwives, child health nurses, neonatal nurses, GPs, obstetricians, and doulas etc.

Carla has partnered with Kristy Howard from "In My Mother's Kitchen", another Psychologist & Therapeutic Horticulture practitioners to create a hands-on workshop for allied health professionals (such as Psychologists, Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers, Counsellors, Mental Health Nurses, Health Care Professionals etc).

Have you experienced the restorative power of gardening, flowers or time in nature and wondered how to incorporate it into your professional practice? This introductory workshop offers allied health professionals the opportunity to explore the growing field of therapeutic horticulture.

 

You’ll gain valuable knowledge, practical tools, and experience the nurturing effects of plant-

based and floral activities, all while connecting with other like-minded professionals in the serene House of Hope Gardens, Woombye.

WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES;

1. Understand the foundational principles and applications of therapeutic horticulture.

2. Learn the history, benefits, and evidence base for nature-based therapy in promoting mental and physical health.

3. Gain practical skills for incorporating plant-based activities & floristry into client sessions.

4. Experience the personal restorative benefits of therapeutic gardening and floristry.

5. Develop ideas for integrating these practices into their professional work and personal self-care routines.
